No, the title of this post is not referring to the click of a mouse or camera even, but instead the click of the keyboard. You may be saying – What? The keyboard doesn’t click!! Ah, but this post is written by a couple *ahem* older webchix who have a very special bond with their older keyboards and yes, they definitely DO click!
Recently, Liz’s favorite keyboard died. I believe she may have actually held a funeral for it and requested a day for mourning. She had that keyboard for years, decades possibly and although I don’t know how long exactly she actually had it, I know it was long enough for her to love it. Considering I’ve been using the same keyboard for close to 10 years myself I completely understand. I hate having to use any others. PCs come and go, but keyboards seem to stay with you forever.
When you spend your days (and usually nights) typing, typing, and more typing a keyboard is extremely important. When Liz’s keyboard died she was on a quest to find a replacement and she did. She was all excited when the package came, ripped it open, plugged it in, and…..and…..and….. NOTHING! Damn a broken unit! She decided to test it on another (older) pc, plugged it in and it worked like a charm. So she went back to her regular pc and still nothing. What the…?!?!
A few creative Google searches later we stumbled across the following website – http://www.clickykeyboards.com. Thanks to this wonderful website we learned that there is a difference between a USB to PS/2 adapter and converter. Adapters are passive and allow you to plug a PS/2 into a USB port, but a converter actually translates (or converts) your PS/2 signal to USB. So, Liz ordered her converter kept her fingers crossed and now she’s back to typing away on her favorite keyboard!
So now you know how insane your friendly neighborhood webchix really are and apparently we are not alone. Here’s an article from pcworld from a fellow keyboard enthusiast, if you will, Benj Edwards – http://www.pcworld.com/article/147939/inside_the_worlds_greatest_keyboard.html. Note that Mr. Edwards only wrote this article on July 9, 2008. Yes, you read that correctly, just this month an article was written extolling the virtues of a keyboard that is over 20 years old! Well, Mr. Edwards, from two webchix to you – ClickClickClick…On!
