The recalled VAIO laptops can overheat which poses a burn hazard in addition to damage to the computer itself. Various model numbers from the VPCF11 Series and VPCCW2 Series have been recalled.

Consumers should visit Sony Support to receive instructions on how to update the computer’s BIOS firmware. Consumers can also call Sony or visit Sony Style retail stores for help with installing the update. The update will also be available via the VAIO Update software program installed on the recalled laptops.

Originally recalled in May 2009, HP continues to receive reports of the lithium-ion batteries overheating causing personal injury and property damage. HP, therefore, has expanded the recall.

The recall affects batteries with several different bar codes on them used in Hewlett-Packard and Compaq notebook computers. The recalled Targus Universal Wall Power Adapters for Laptops have faulty wiring which can cause the connector tips to heat and melt the plastic encasing the connector tips. The following SKU numbers are recalled: APA23US-02, APA23US-03, APA23US-04, APA63US-03, APA63US-04, APM62US-03, and APM62US-04. The SKU number can be found on the underside of the adapter unit. Consumers should contact Comarco to receive instructions on returning the unit for a free refurbished replacement.

The recalled Acer Aspire notebook models are AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG, but not all units are affected. An internal microphone wire under the palm rest can short circuit and overheat which poses a burn hazard. Consumers should contact Acer to determine if their unit is included in the recall and receive a free repair.
